Staying Connected Through Big Feelings is a therapist-led workshop for parents of children who are emotionally intense, neurodivergent, or simply wired a bit outside the box. Together, participants will learn about the nervous system, explore co-regulation and communication skills, and practice staying steady during challenging moments. The goal of this series is to help families strengthen connections, reduce conflict, and create a warm, nurturing environment.

Each 90-minute session blends:
|
- Psychoeducation to understand what is happening beneath behaviors
- Practical skills that can be used right away
- Supportive discussion facilitated by a seasoned clinician with expertise in ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder

Session 1
|
Understanding Big Feelings
|
We’ll look at what “big emotions” really are through the lens of the nervous system, developmental needs, sensory profiles, and temperament. Parents will reflect on their own patterns, strengths, and stress points with compassion, not judgment.

Session 2
|
Co-Regulation: Calming the Storm Together
|
We’ll explore how kids borrow our nervous systems to find steadiness. Parents will learn realistic strategies to stay grounded in the moment instead of getting pulled into the intensity.

Session 3
|
Boundaries That Hold Without Breaking Connection
|
We’ll talk about limits that are clear, kind, and consistent. Parents will practice ways to say “no” or redirect behavior without rupturing trust or escalating power struggles.

Session 4
|
Communication That Builds Trust
|
We’ll introduce language that helps kids feel seen and safe, including validation, reflective listening, and collaborative problem-solving. Parents will practice shifting from managing behavior to nurturing relationship.

Session 5
|
Repairing After Hard Moments
|
No family does it perfectly. Here we’ll learn how to repair ruptures, rebuild closeness, and use challenges as opportunities for connection and growth. Parents will leave with step-by-step repair tools.

Session 6
|
Integration, Practice, and Next Steps
|
We’ll reflect on what has changed, what is still unfolding, and what supports help families stay resourced. Parents will leave with personalized strategies they can keep using long after the series ends.
